Updating profile photo in Azure Active Directory admin center, with exiting photo, option to upload new photo is grayed out

I recently added photos to most of my users in the Azure Active Directory admin center. I just went in to update one of the profiles with a newer photo however the upload option is grayed out. And I do not see a way to remove the photo. Am I missing something?
For users that do not have a photo currently, I am able to upload a photo, this is only for profiles that I have previously uploaded photos for.
I would like to know how to remove the photo, because if I can do that, I will be able to upload a new photo.

Thank you for the detailed follow up!
Is this happening for every user that has a picture already uploaded to their Azure AD profile, or is this only for some users? I wonder if this is could be a permissions issue, unless you're already and Global Admin. As another workaround you can try using the Update profilephoto MS Graph REST API. For more details.

I'm having the same issue even using the Global Admin.
I'm using Microsoft Edge
Last week I logged in and found that this issue has resolved itself! It .must be something on the Microsoft side that they fixed.
Same problem here - hasn't solved for me yet...
Does anyone have any ideas?

Is there any answer for this? We are having this issue. Profile pictures on not consistently pushing throughout our tenant.
We are experiencing the same issue. Is there a solution from Microsoft?

Thank you for your post!
Are you able to share a screenshot of what you're seeing so I can gain a better understanding of your issue? Additionally, have you tried refreshing your browser, or closing and re-opening the AzureAD admin center to see if that resolves your issue?
I tried reproducing your issue but was able to upload a new photo over an existing photo.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Hi James,
we have the same problem here. We can't change the picture since the folder icon is greyed out. My own account (global admin) is also affected. In my local AD I have a brand new picture, it doesn't sync to AAD. in https://myaccount.microsoft.com/?ref=MeControl I'm not allowed to change my own profile pic (why, I don't know, we do not have any restricions) and in my O365 profile I can upload a new picture but it is not used.
