Hi, I tried connecting to my Ubuntu server 20.04 (GUI) from Window's remote connection unsuccessfully, whenever I tried to log in, it "blinks" and return me to RDP's login page (No black screen or error on a page). I have tried all possible troubleshooting from Microsoft and other sources. Kindly help.

    Hello @Gall77 ,

    Thanks for your query.

1.What's the OS version of your client computer?
2.Can you share the troubleshooting solutions you've tried but unsuccessful?
3.Is there any error message in the event log?
    4.Please check the following methods:
    (1) With the default installation, you can’t log in as root by any means, be it ssh, or remote graphical session; Somehow, RDP locks up on the place of the first initialization. Then only logout from remote machine can fix this thing.

    (2) How to Connect to a Ubuntu 20.04 Server via Remote Desktop Connection using xRDP: https://bytexd.com/xrdp-ubuntu/
    (3) Make sure that there is no user logged into the system before you use RDP; For some reason, the communication between xrdp and sesman was not possible with ipv6 disabled on the loopback interface. Only after enabling ipv6 on the loopback interface the xrdp to sesman connection could be established and xrdp was working.

    (4) I was able to solve this issue by logging out of the desktop session for the machine before trying RDP; I found this xRDP installation script that works perfectly! https://c-nergy.be/blog/?p=15978

Hi, Leila, I have done all the installation right, everything checked and running!
My only problem is with Window's RDP, whenever I try to connect, it doesn't go through (it takes me back to RDP's login interface), with no errors shown!
The connection I am doing is for accessing Contabo's VPS via SSH Windows RDP (I am using PUTTY )

    Thanks!

    Hello @Gall77 ,

    Thanks for your response.

1.Will the same issue occur if you remote to Ubuntu server 20.04 with other version of Win 10 computer?
2.Did you try to install a new Ubuntu server 20.04 to check if the same problem will occur?
3.From time to time I have received a black screen after initiating the remote connection to the Xrdp Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) server. Although I'm not sure how to completely resolve this issue but logging out from the Ubuntu desktop prior to making a remote connection have solved it at least temporarily.
4.If the issue still exists, we sincerely recommend that you open a case to Microsoft support for further professional help: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4341255/support-for-busines
