2FA not working - "Try another verification method. That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method."

On my other outlook account, it says "Sign-in is blocked. You’ve tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.". I proceed to reset my password and go through 2FA. The code sent to my other email address works fine but when I want the message sent to my phone number, the message says "Try another verification method. That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method."

I fill out the Microsoft account recovery form but since I used 2FA, they just ignore the request. Is my account just locked forever then?

    I have to verify as well now to get the code, yet it's stuck on the Verification complete page.

    Dear Ronal Rai

    Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

    So sorry to hear about the situation you are experiencing.

    There are three ways to restore your account: bind your email and phone; submit a form; and contact the online department;

    According to your description, the bind mailbox and phone method cannot be executed because double authentication is enabled. Also you have tried the submit form method, again it doesn't work, so we can also try contacting the online department.

    When you contact the online department. You need to submit as much information as you can, including your registered account information, historical passwords, subscription information (if any), and so on. When you submit more authentic information, the more likely it is that your account will be restored.

    You can try logging on to the following website

    Enter your details of the problem e.g. account recovery.

    Choose from the following categories: Other Products, Manage Account Security.

    Thank you for replying Clark, but I've fixed the issue and forgot to close this question!

    For anyone wondering what I did, I just did the same process of trying to get the code from my mobile number from another device - in my case I borrowed someone else's phone and did the whole password reset on that. My guess is that the automated Microsoft servers blocked my original phone for whatever reason and shows the "Try another verification method" message.

    You can also contact Microsoft Support like I did through X (or Twitter). Just answer the automated questions until you get through to an actual support agent. Just message their account at: Microsoft Support (@MicrosoftHelps) / X
