Pin messages on the Outlook desktop app

Hi,

We woul like to pin messages on the Outlook desktop app similar to the Outlook Web App where this function is available. But if messages are pinned in the Web App, the pinned messages are not pinned in the desktop app. In mailboxes with a high volume of incoming emails it would extremely useful to pin the most important once to avoid them being drowned.

I would like to know if it is possible to add this feature also on the desktop app. We do not use the new Outlook as it is still missing to many other features currently only available in the Outlook classic desktop app.

Thank you for any input on this topic!

    Hi Mir,

Unfortunately, the answer is not solving our problem as there is not pinning option of equivalent for Outlook Desktop App. Outlook New is no option for us due to the missing features compared with the Classic Outlook.

    Best regards

    Steffi

    Hello #Steffi,

Currently, the ability to pin messages in the Outlook desktop app, specifically in the Classic version, is not available. This feature is included in the New Outlook for Windows, but since you mentioned that you are using the Classic version, you will not have access to this functionality. Furthermore, messages pinned in the Outlook Web App do not sync with the Classic desktop app.

While you're unable to pin messages directly in the Classic Outlook desktop app, there are a few workarounds you might consider to better manage important emails:

    1. Use Categories and Flags:
      • You can categorize emails by assigning color categories or flagging messages for follow-up. This way, important emails can be easily identified in your inbox.
    2. Create a Custom Folder:
      • Move important emails to a separate folder dedicated to high-priority messages. This can help in organizing your inbox without losing track of critical emails.
    3. Use the "Favorites" Feature:
      • If your email setup allows, you can add folders containing important emails to your Favorites for quick access, even though this won't pin individual messages.
    4. To-Do Bar Integration:
      • Utilize the To-Do Bar to display tasks or flagged items, which can include important emails, to keep them visible alongside your inbox.

These methods may not provide the direct functionality of pinning, but they can help you manage and prioritize your important emails within the constraints of the Classic Outlook desktop app.

    Hello #Steffi,

Good day. Thank you for posting in the community!

Sincere apologies for any inconvenience this issue might be causing you. Currently, the ability to pin messages is available only in the new Outlook for Windows and not in the classic desktop version of Outlook. Users report that while the pinned messages feature works seamlessly in the Outlook Web App (OWA), this functionality is absent in the desktop app. Therefore, if you pin messages in the web version, they will not reflect as pinned in the classic desktop app.

For those using the classic version, pinning messages isn't a supported feature at this time. As of now, there are alternatives to manage important emails, such as using flags or categories to help prioritize messages.

Microsoft has been transitioning features from the classic Outlook to the new version, so it's possible that features like email pinning could be included in future updates of the classic app, although no specific timeline has been provided.

For users who rely heavily on features unique to the classic version, sticking with it might still be necessary until more comprehensive updates are made to the new Outlook app.
