Outlook has been receiving a lot of spam when using it, even though I made a report, the spam is still coming into the inbox and sent to a different address every time, also my outlook is not able to set up a blacklist as well as a whitelist because it needs to receive a lot of mail from different clients, I have tried the rules but to no avail, the mail is still coming into the inbox.

Hi Walter M. Corwin

Thank you for raising your concern in this community.

We understand that you have been struggling with spam and I know how you feel.

Since you mentioned the reporting feature, I will default you to using Outlook/Hotmail to send and receive mail in the web version of Outlook(outlook.com). Here's a step-by-step guide to help you stop this type of spam from getting into your inbox:

Use Outlook's Block Feature:

  • Open Outlook and navigate to your inbox.
  • Right-click on the spam email you want to block.
  • Select "Block" and then "Block Sender". This will prevent emails from that specific sender from reaching your inbox in the future.

Create a Rule to Filter Specific Patterns:

  • Go to "Settings" (gear icon) in the top-right corner.
  • Click "Mail" > "Rules".
  • Click on "Add new rule".
  • Name your rule something like "Block Ads".
  • Set the condition to look for specific patterns in the subject or sender address, for example, or keywords that you have noticed in spam emails.
  • In the action section, select "Move to" and choose the "Junk Email" folder.
  • Click "Save" to apply the rule.

Since you are not sure exactly how your rule is set up, you can refer to the settings. Use inbox rules in Outlook.com or Outlook on the web - Microsoft Support

Mark Emails as Junk:

  • Whenever you receive a spam email, select it.
  • Click on "Report" in the top toolbar and choose "Report as junk". This helps train Outlook's spam filters to recognize and filter similar emails in the future.

Adjust Spam Filter Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" (gear icon) and click on "Mail" > "Junk email".
  • Add known spam email addresses or domains to the "Blocked senders and domains" list.
  • You can also add trusted contacts to the "Safe senders and domains" list to ensure important emails aren't accidentally filtered as spam.
