802.1x authentication - network connection doesn't recover during user logon

webdc2021 1 Reputation point

I set up the 802.1x connection in my test VM, running Win10 Pro connected to a domain. It works fine if I disable and then enable the network adapter with 802.1x port authentication setup:

But when I log out the user and try to log back in under the same user account, the connection always fails. And the Wired-AutoConfig server has the following error message in the event log:

Reason: 0x70006
Reason Text: The network does not support authentication and 802.1X is enforced in the profile

And only after I log in (used cached Windows user account) and do the steps I showed in the beginning, the 802.1x connection is re-established.

What am I doing wrong?

    Hi ,

The following article is talking about how to troubleshoot 802.1X authentication, you could have a look:

    Advanced troubleshooting 802.1X authentication

For 802.1 X authentication issue, we always need to analyze network traffic to find any clues. However, analysis of network traffic is beyond our forum support level and due to forum security policy, we have no such channel to collect user log information. So we recommend you open a case with MS Professional tech support service, they will help you open a phone or email case to Microsoft, so that you would get a technical support on a one-to-one basis while ensuring private information.
