To whom it may concern,

When an email arrives int omy classic Outlook, How do I mark the email as read by default without ever opening the email. I have read about automaically marking the email as read. But I would like t oset this up for a specific folder and that what I don't under stand.

Example I get a ton of cruises promotions that I have dirrect int oa specific folder. I have other email that I'm directing into a different folder. I would like to automatically mark the cruise folder content as "Read", while leaving the other folders as to be read with a number.

Is that possible to only change the read default setting per folders?

Thanks

    Dear Bill Seward,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

In order to understand your query and provide possible solution, May I please know how you are moving/directing emails to different folder? Are you using a rule or you are moving the emails manually?

If you are moving the emails manually, you can create a quick steps to move the emails and mark it as read at the same time. To do this, Home --> Quick step on the ribbon, click on the drop down -->New Quick step --> Move to Folder -->Give a name your Quick step -->Next to Move to folder, select the folder you want to move in -->tick "Mark as read" check box --> Finish.

Once you create a Quick step to move the email and mark as read automatically when you move the email to another folder, you can just right click on the email you want to move to other folder,

However, if you are moving the emails using rule, you may need to edit your rule and include "Mark as read" under your Rule action.

Therefore, if your scenario is different from the above, could you please provide us with more detail information of your scenario?

I look forward to your update. Kindly note that the above requested information is required for further analysis and troubleshooting of your situation. Your patience and cooperation are much appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

Many thanks for your kind update,

I'm glad you found the "Mark as read" option within the rule function.  However, to answer your follow up question, Outlook does not have a built-in search function for rules at the moment. So, you may need to manually review each rule by scrolling through the list in the Rules and Alerts dialog. Then, look for rules that match the criteria you are interested in. Once you find the rule you want to modify, select it and click on change rule to edit it and include "Mark as read" action.

If you have any other question or need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

    Libeamiak,

    Thank you for your responce,

I found the box you illustrated above "Mark as read" within the rule function.

Is their a way to search the rule function for the sidderent incoming email. I have sozen and proble dozen of rules. Since it had to be sone individually per rule, not globally for the folder.
