How to turn off spelling and grammar checking in Outlook, permanently? (Outlook for Mac)

I am using MacBook Pro, M1 chip, version 15.3. I have an Office subscription and am using the Outlook app, version 16.93.2.

At the moment, I have spelling and grammar checking disabled. BUT:

  • I am seeing red- and blue-underlined words now, since the most recent update. Previously, there were never any underlined words for spelling or grammar. How do I make this stop? No answer is forthcoming after a 30-minute web search. Many of the instructions, including from Microsoft, contain advice to find things like Options that I cannot find and don't show up in any search.
  • I never want any autocorrections, ever. How can I stop the app from autocorrecting all kinds of things? Like in the subject line. I want what I type, not what the app wants it to be, lol.

This annoyance just cropped up in the last week or so. Help, it's driving me bonkers and wasting so much time just to find an answer!

PS--Why isn't Outlook a choice in the dropdown menu for the app I'm referring to?

More time-wasting but I found a partial solution:

I reverted to Legacy Outlook and saw that both check and correct spelling and grammar were active, even though I never had it set that way when I was using it, before New Outlook.

I unchecked all the spelling, grammar and autocorrect choices, then went back to New Outlook. Now, at least I don't see red squiggles in my emails while composing.

The changes I made do NOT however stop autocorrect from messing up my subject-line text. Why is this app not allowing me to stop autocorrect in the subject line? Sheesh.

Microsoft, surely you can do better! Why did I have to waste so much time just to make this change back to the way I had it before you guys messed it up!

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I have moved your question to the Outlook for Mac forum.
