All older gmail emails dissapeard after new outlook client is set up

I'm setting up a new PC and was setting up email sync to Outlook through IMAP (I have MS365). After syncing all mails, thousands of them, have dissapeared. Everything (with some exceptions) that is not from the last month can't be found anymore. This goes for Inbox, Sent, Arcived etc.
Outlook is synced with gmail, they look the same, but everything older then about a month is gone. When I go to gmail (through a browser) I can't find anything in trash or older emails in All Mail.
I'm desperate, how can I get them back when they are not in Trash? What is the setting that caused this to happen?

This same thing just happened to me. I've been using Outlook on one Windows PC with several email accounts for months: 2 Gmail, 1 Yahoo, 1 iCloud. I purchased an Office 365 subscription a few days ago to use Outlook on a few other computers (Mac OS & Windows). Now all emails from the two Gmail accounts are gone. The Yahoo & iCloud accounts seem to be unaffected.

There are no sync settings in Outlook that would affect the data on the Gmail server. Therefore, you should still focus on trying to recover the emails from Gmail Web. If there are any updates, you can let me know.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly,

Yes, the mails from many years dissaperaed from gmail web. Before setting up the new Outlook in the new computer everything was fine. I saw directly after the first synk that something was not right. Being that the mails on the gmail server dissaperaed it also propagated to my other devices like phone and pad.

Is there something in the initial sync settings that can cause this? I can't find anything in the current settings.

I have also filed a support request with google. There initial reponces for retrieving deleted mails have been unsuccessful, but they are targeted at retrieving mails that have been lost due to someone having access to your credentials through the web client. Not when the access is with SMTP.

    Best Regards

    Hello Åste Eggen,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand your issue with old emails syncing from Gmail to Outlook.

From the information you provided, there's one point that needs clarification. Are you saying that these old emails have also disappeared from the Gmail web interface? If that's the case, it might not be a sync settings issue. It could be that the data was already lost on the Gmail server. Please confirm this.

If the data is missing from Gmail Web, you need to contact Gmail support to see if they can recover it. If it's another issue, we can then check the sync settings.

    Best Regards,
