Hello Guys,
I am trying to figure out, if it is possible to have a client-server application working only with link local addresses in ipv6 network.

1) Most importantly, it is recommended?

2) Are there any limitation over such applications?

    Hi ,

Welcome to our new Microsoft Q&A Platform.

    >> Are there any limitation over such applications?

Link-local addresses in IPv6 are similar to IPv4 APIPA addresses.

In a computer network, a link-local address is a network address that is valid only for communications within the network segment (link) or the broadcast domain that the host is connected to. Link-local addresses are not guaranteed to be unique beyond a single network segment. Routers therefore do not forward packets with link-local addresses. For protocols that have only link-local addresses, such as Ethernet, hardware addresses assigned by manufacturers in networking elements are unique, consisting of a vendor identification and a serial identifier.

If you just use in your intranet and do not require lots of IP address, you could use it.

Windows includes the following IPv6-enabled applications: FTP client, Telnet client, Internet Explorer:

Most network management application will require modification or rewrite to fully support and manage IPv6.

You could test your supplication or device in an IPV6 environment:

    Best Regards,
