Set default 'From' address on specifically on Outlook Online

Hi there,
I have an email alias on outlook for work, and when I send emails, it sends out a string of alphanumeric characters associated with my work log in and not my email alias that people email me with. Therefore I would like to change my default 'From' address and add my email alias to this on outlook office365 online and not through the app. My work account is not supported on the app and so I cannot use it due to admin privileges. When I search online it only gives me a solution for the mail app which I cannot use.

When composing an email, I've worked out that selecting 'show from' shows me a drop down menu on the email header to allow me to select what I address want to show to the email recipient, but this only gives me the option to select the random alphanumeric character email address associated with my work log in and not the email alias I have set up. How can I add the email alias to the 'from' drop down menu for me to select without using the Outlook app which I cannot use?

Thanks.

    Hi Fordy,

'View all Outlook Settings' does not seem to be there. A notification implied it could have been moved to the 'Account' tab, but there's nothing under that tab either.

Would you be able to advise?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum. Please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well despite the situation you find yourself in.

You can set your email alias as the default "From" address in Outlook Online by adjusting your settings. Here’s how:

Steps to Set Your Alias as Default 'From' Address in Outlook Online

    1. Go to Outlook Settings
      • Open Outlook Online and click the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right corner.
      • Select View all Outlook settings at the bottom.
    2. Navigate to Sync Email Settings
      • In the Settings panel, go to Mail > Sync email.
      • Look for the option Set default From address.
    3. Choose Your Alias
      • Click the dropdown menu and select your email alias instead of the alphanumeric work login.
      • Click Save to apply the changes.
    4. Test the Change
      • Compose a new email and check if your alias appears in the From field by default.
      • If not, manually select it once, and Outlook should remember your preference for future emails.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Fordy B.
