Azure account created using wrong Microsoft account - how can we switch?

Question

Last week we registered with Azure to obtain resouces for our team using my boss's account information.

Unfortunately, when he was asked to choose between his Personal Account and Work Or School Account, he accidentally selected his Personal Account when registering. So, none of us is listed in his family "team".

How can he switch his Azure subscription from his Personal Account to his Work Or School Account (using his same e-mail address)?

Hi @AxD , thanks for reaching out. Have you purchased anything with this subscription yet? If so please let me know. If not you can just add another subscription to your Azure account and switch between them when needed: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/manage/create-subscription . If you've purchased anything we'd need to contact the billing department to get that sorted out but it shouldn't be a problem. I hope this helps! We haven't yet purchased anything as we noticed the mistake right at the beginning when we wanted to add me as an administrator.

Just to make sure (I'm an absolute newbie to this regard):

Are you sure we need to create a new subscription? From the hyperlink you provided I noticed there are options to change directories or to add existing Microsoft 365 Business billing accounts. Wouldn't that rather fit?

What will happen to the (redundant) existing subscription? Can we drop it?

Hello, James,

we signed in using the Work Or School Account option and created a subscription there. Then we signed in using the Personal Account option and discontinued the subscription there.

Is this what you had suggested?
