Is 2 step verification broken?

For whatever reason my phone signed me out of my outlook account and I needed to re-enter my password. No problem. Then, cause I have 2 step verification set up it wants me to authenticate. So, I get the code sent my back up email. Because I have 2 step set up, it tells me I need another code sent to my second verification method which is my phone number. So, I get the code and go to enter it and I get red text telling me "You've requested too many codes today. Please try again tomorrow." This has happened to me 3 days in a row!!! Please tell me how the heck I am supposed to use 2 step verification if I'm only allowed one code a day?! And to top it off it seems like Microsoft has absolutely zero support other than me posting on here from an alternate account cause you can't ask questions unless youre signed in! and of course... you cant talk to a real person.

Dear Nic C1,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

I understand your issue. When you were using verification, due to having two-factor authentication enabled, after passing email verification, unfortunately, you encountered the "too many requests" / "try another verification method" / "service currently unavailable" errors when attempting to use SMS verification.

You are not the only one encountering this issue; currently, a large number of users are facing a similar problem to yours: being unable to receive verification codes via SMS.

We can't rule out a temporary server failure, and we recommend that you provide feedback directly to online support, the more people who provide feedback, the faster the investigation of this incident will progress, thank you for your cooperation.

Here are the specific steps to contact the live chat support:

(If the following steps don't display as expected, please try changing your browser and doing it one or two more times.)

  1. Sign in to this link using any personal Microsoft accountContact - Microsoft Support. Type "account recovery" into the search box.
  2. Click "Sign in and contact support" at the bottom of the page.
  3. Under "Products and Services", select "Microsoft 365 and Office".
  4. Under "Category", select "Manage Account Security"/ “Technical Support”.
  5. Click "Chat with a support agent". Then fill out the contact information so that the online agent can contact you.

Please note:

  • Online chat does not support enterprise accounts. If you currently do not have an available personal account, please create a new @outlook.com account to use.
  • the online chat service is available during working hours on local business days.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Best Regards,

Ulrica.W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Dear Angela Wright,

    Good day

It has been a while, are you able to contact the chat staff using other personal accounts? Is there any progress in restoring your account?

    Best Regards,

    Dear Angela Wright,

What account did you use to log in to the link I gave above?

Please note that I have pointed out that enterprise accounts cannot use this link, and you need to use a Microsoft account created by yourself.

If you are using a personal account, please send me a screenshot of the page that you are unable to log in to so that I can determine the source of the page.

    Best Regards,
