Hi Paul,
Thank you for reaching out regarding the recurring calendar invite that continues to appear despite the original organizer’s account having been deleted.
Since the meeting was created by a user who is no longer active and cannot be accessed through standard Outlook controls, and you're using the new Outlook for Windows, we recommend the following approach:
- Use Exchange Online PowerShell
If the deleted user’s mailbox still exists (e.g., in a soft-deleted state), an administrator can run the following command to remove the recurring meeting from all attendees’ calendars:
Connect-ExchangeOnline
Remove-CalendarEvents -Identity "
- If the mailbox is permanently deleted
Unfortunately, if the mailbox has been purged from Exchange Online, the recurring meeting cannot be removed centrally. In this case, each attendee must manually delete the series from their own calendar.
- Zoom-Linked Meetings
If the invite is linked to Zoom, we recommend checking with your Zoom administrator to disable or delete the recurring meeting from the Zoom portal. This may help prevent future notifications or join links from being sent.
- Alternative Workaround
If the above options are not viable, consider restoring the deleted user temporarily (if within 30 days), assigning a license, and then accessing the calendar to cancel the meeting manually.
I hope you find this helpful. Please don’t hesitate to reach out again if you need further assistance.
