Has anyone figured out an actual way to resolve everything in Microsoft Office 365 (for business) opening on a single click?

The change occurred for me sometime in March 2025, with suddenly outlook emails opening on a single click. It extends to Edge opening multiple tabs at once when trying to single click. Teams is popping out messages to read instead of in-line view. I have followed all of the instructions that I have seen for reading pane and options, file explorer settings, and all are set the way others have suggested: Outlook reading pane options uncheck "mark item as read when viewed in reading pane" and uncheck "mark item as read when selection changes"; Teams settings selection of "main window" for both opening content in Teams and starting new chat. Nothing is working. It is so maddening to have so many windows opening anytime I read anything. Is Microsoft working on this?

Thank you for the response! I generally use the reading pane "show on the right." I've tried switching it to "show on bottom" and it still opens emails with a single click in a new window (it does not just preview, as intended). I've followed all of the troubleshooting of the issue for the Windows 11 updates as well - verified the mouse settings (selected slower speed and toggled off "enhance pointer selection," file explorer set to "open each folder in the same window" and "double-click to open item (single-click to select)." This issue is occurring when I work remotely, but does not appear to happen as much when I am working in office, and our IT support is not able to figure it out either.

When you click on a new email message in the message list (single click), it will be displayed for reading. If you turn the reading pane on or off and open a new message (with a click), it will open in the same window. If you double-click on the new message (it must be firm enough to double-click), the message will open in a new window. These are intended in the new Outlook. To disable the reading pane: Click on the View tab > Reading Pane.

I keep the Reading Pane set to the bottom. When I click on an email it opens in the bottom window, not opening the email in a new window. Test with this setting and see if it helps.

Afraid its not an MS issue, or MS Office, its your specific system.

If win11 likely some update obtained from the wrong source
