How to change default link handling settings in new outlook?

When I open a word document it automatically opens it on the web version of word. How can I change it to open by default in the Word app?

After deeper research we have found that this feature is not avilable in New Outlook Open file links directly in Microsoft 365 desktop apps from Teams and classic Outlook , as a workaround:

1. you can only preview the links as :

• Open Outlook and go to the Settings (gear icon) in the top right corner.
• Select View all Outlook settings at the bottom.
• Navigate to Mail > Compose and reply.
• Scroll down to the Link Previewsection.
• Here, you can choose to open links in the desktop app instead of the browser.

2. Alternative work around:

• Please press WIN-R and type %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft\olk and press Enter.
• Then an explorer windows opens. Check if you can see an Attachments folder. If not create one and problem might be solved for you.
