Disabling Shortcut Keys

I'm looking to disable shortcut keys in Word, Excel, Outlook. F12 to be more specific. I'm running Win 7 x64 with Office 2010. Tried using the Group Policies but I'm unable to figure out how to enforce them without AD. Please, help, the F12 command is annoying.

Just out of curiosity, what are you doing that you constantly fat finger the <F12>?

In Word 2010 <F12> i have File / Save As, is that what you have?Just use the <ESC> to cancel it quickly.

    • File tab/ Options command / Customize Ribbon option / Keyboard Shortcuts Customize ... button.
    • Place the insertion point in "Press new Shortcut Key" input field, press <F12>
    • Under the "Current Keys" input field, (in the grey) it will show the command that is currently assigned to the key. In my case it is "FileSaveAs"
    • Find the assigned command in the "COmmands" input field, single click on it
    • <F12> will display in the "Current Keys" field, single click on it
    • Click on the "Remove" button
    • Click on Close button.

Excel 2010 <F12> is also Save As

Excel assigning shortcut keys still is different than word (this is one place where Office is not yet (20+ years and counting) consistent!), I don't see any way of chaning it in 2010

    Outlook I don't have (and don't care about ...<grin>)

If you are happy disabling or changing the function in ALL programs then you can remap the keyboard in the registry. There are several free programs available to make this simple and reversible
