I am having issues opening excel 2003.  Everytime I go to open an existing file or try to open up a new worksheet, I receive an error (null) is not valid Win 32 application.  I am running XP.  Any suggestions how I fix the problem?

    Hello,

I don't know if you are still having troubles, however if you still need help I just had this symptom occur with my girlfriends parents computer. I tried all the steps online that I've seen, however none of them worked. I found the steps below finally fixed my problem. For some reason the OPA11.dat file was not selected with any default application to open with. Hopefully this helps!

Solution to: “(Null) Not valid Win32 application" when opening Excel 2003

    1. Start
    2. Run
    3. Copy and Paste the following into the Open field: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data>
    4. Right click on OPA11.dat
    5. Select Properties
    6. Click Change next to “opens with”
    7. Select Excel in the list of programs
    8. Click Ok
