Hi,

There is a button "Scanner Printout" in the insert tab of the ribbon in OneNote 2010.

Why can this button not be added in the ribbon of Word 2010 and PowerPoint 2010 as well ?

See http://www.gmayor.com/scan_into_word_2007.htm for a reuse of an old function to scan directly from Word.

I'm not sure why the function was ever removed, but my guess would be to avoid the incorrect usage of images and pictures in Word. Scanned images should be processed by a graphics program where you adjust colors, cut away unwanted pieces, ... and should only after all that is done been inserted into Word where you should have no need to tamper with the image content at all. Word is not a graphics program and should not be used as one.

OneNote has a button to scan and it is not a graphics program either.

I still don't understand why Word and PowerPoint couldn't have one as well.

I don't see the logic in the reasoning that you gave.

    1. A macro has to be digitally signed or we will get a yellow security line each time we start Word.
    2. Installing the macro on 1 machine would be doable, I have too many machine to take care of.

The Scanner Printout button that is available in OneNote would have been fine.

It beats me why it has not been made availlable in Word an PowerPoint.

Why? The function is there in 2007 and 2010. It is just hidden. If you add a macro like Graham suggests in his article you can use it just fine.

    Thanks Yves.

Whatever the reason was for taking the feature out of Word, it was a stupid one.

Our only choice is to continue with Office 2003.
