I have a word document that is linked to an excel spreadsheet. I want the size of the embedded object to stay constant but everytime I select update link, it resizes the object. I've tried right-clicking on the object and selecting format object/size and have tried every combination possible to keep the size constant but it continues to change. Help!!

If you use edit > paste special > paste as a Bitmap with the link option set, then you can resize the bitmap in Word and it will stay at that size when updated. Other types of linked object may revert to their original size when updated.

Try each of the paste special as link options and see which works best for you.

I have the same problem.  Excel 2010 pasted into Word 2010.  Contents contain both data in Excel cells and an accompanying chart right next to it.

To replicate:  Copy from Excel.  Paste Special, Paste Link as MS Worksheet Object.  I'd be okay with Paste Link as Picture, but this method inexplicably rotates each individual letter of rotated words in the chart (e.g., y-axis titles)...also a bug that needs fixed...

Is Bitmap really the only option?  Bitmaps look fuzzy, and won't pass in the corporate world...they just look unprofessional.

Does someone know the answer to the root cause of the problem, which is that for whatever reason, when updating the link it SOMETIMES re-sizes the object in word?  Other times it doesn't.  Why is this so random?  Can't it just stay put on update?  Also, I've tried all combinations of format codes to no avail (Alt-F9).

    Thanks!

    I have the same problem.

Word doc is saved as docx and excel as xlsx, these standard workbook/document versions.

Bitmap image is a not a solution for us (same issue as camkennedy)

What format is Excel file and Word document saved as (97-2003 format or default)?

Is this issue occurring on all files or a specific file?

Try saving the Excel fie and Word document in 97 - 2003 format and then link it with Word and verify the status.
