Create a document scrap?

In Windows XP and Word 2003 I could create a document scrap by dragging selected text from a word document to the desktop. Now I have Windows 7 64-bit with Word 2003 and dragging text to the desktop results in the cursor changing to a No Entry sign. Can it be done or has it been done away with. I found it quite useful on occasions.  Thanks

Scrap files are not supported in Windows Vista or later.
