OneNote cache size

I am running OneNote 2010 with no problems except I get a sync problem with one small notebook which I have so far been unable to clear.

However

Total size of all notebooks is                   <250 mb

Total size of oneNote cache is                 >46 Gb

I have read that the cache can be bigger than the primary files but this seems beyond the bound of reason.

On my laptop, which is a synched copy of my desktop, the same notebooks result in a cache of 'only' 15 Gb

Any suggestions or observations gratefully received,

 with thanks

John

    1. The official re-organization: File, Options, Save. There is something like Optimize now !
    2. The fastest way, if not too many notebooks AND not on SkyDrive: close all your notebooks (this deletes the cache) and re-open your notebooks using File, Open (this builds a new cache)

After a further 12 hours the cache is now 38GB. Double Bizarre !!

    Many thanks for your response.

I was aware of that function and in fact it is set to optimize after 20 minutes of inactivity though I have never seen the progress bar come up.

I have rebuilt the cache as you suggested but after a few hours it is sitting at 24GB - this for a range of notebooks totalling less than 250mb.I make that a factor of 100.

Does anybody know why this is so large. I know that disk storage is cheap but this seems bizarre.
