Move down and left with enter button

In some spreadsheets hitting the Enter button moves the cursor downa and left, and in some it just moves down.  I know how to select one or the other, but can't find anywhere to get it to do both?

Thanks, Nancy

I begin by Unlocking a block of cells (say C3:F5) and then protect the worksheet specifiy that the user can go to only unlocked cells. I have set Excel to move to the right with Enter

Move the mouse point to C3 and type apple Enter, pear Enter, plum Enter, grape, Enter. I have filled C3:F3 and the mouse automatically goes to C4 (ie down and to the left.) The trick is in unlocking & protecting.

If I want to leave the Enter key with a down movement then after each entry I use Tab (type apple Tab, pear Tab, plum Tab, grape Tab)

Sometimes I yearn for the old Gateway keyboard that has diagonal keys as well as left, right, up, down!

best wishes

There are only a few possibilities here. There is no setting that would force the cursor down and to the left. Here are a few things that could generate that behaviour:

  • A macro
  • Using the tab key to move to the right. When you then hit enter it will move you down and to the left under where you started to tab
  • UnLocked cells with the option to select locked cells deactiveated. If the next unlocked cell is down and to the left then that is where the cursor will go.
