Printing problem in Unicode Hindi Text using Microsoft Windows Vista + Word 2003 /2007

We are having problems in printing unicode (Hindi) text printed through Microsoft word and using tools available on bhashaindia.com (IME2). The text when printed is appearing garbled when printed through Microsoft Word. It works fine in Notepad and Wordpad in Windows Vista.

Basically all the characters added onto the main characters like matraas, "r" as in kripa (Hindi) etc are getting separated from the main alphabets and are getting printed adjacent to the main characters alongwith a dotted circle. Ideally the matraas etc should be be printed as stuck to the main characters.

However when same file is printed using Notepad or Wordpad on the same printer on the same PC, the text appears perfectly alright.

Kindly advise on the remedy of the above problem. If required necessary changes may also be made in Microsoft Word as well.

Try changing the default printer in your computer :-

Click on start->devices and printers->right click on XPS document writer->click on set as default.

Now try printing and check if it prints well. If it prints fine then contact your printer manufacturer and update your printer drivers.

I have been having the same problem with my office computer, not with bhashaindia tools but with the google hindi IME. The description is the same as above but occurs through all editing software, not just MSWord. The only way to properly print hindi unicode text available then is to print to a pdf file, and subsequently print from that pdf file. It is roundabout, but it works fine.

My files print fine when transported to another computer at office and printed to the same network computer. It is only when I print them from my computer that the problem occurs.

If the printer device driver is faulty, why would it print correctly when the same unicode text (in Hindi) is printed through Notepad.

The fact is Notepad prints correctly, but MS Word does not.

    Please advise.
