Give me "Form Template error, Template used to create this form can not be found". Opens fine on my old laptop with 2007 on it but not on my new one. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? I have been trying for weeks!!!!!!!! Please help! thanks!

Go to where the xml files are stored.

Right click one and open with Notepad.

In the top lines will be the url or UNC which it uses to find the template.

That will tell you where to look.

Go to that location, it could even be cached, but hopefully it is there. Right click on it and select design.  Then do a save as to your my documents or something.  Now you can transfer it to the new laptop and republish the the same location it was before.

Feel free to post what you find.

I get that much, but I dont even get where I can change it to pull it from. It seems like it is pulled from the internet or something. I dont know much about the program and don't understand where it is storing the custom forms or the forms in general. I have looked everywhere and am having no luck at all. It is stressing me out. Could you explain what you would do step by step if this problem happened to you?

OK, here is a breif explanation of how InfoPath works.

There is a template and there are files.

When you design a form you build a template that tells how the data should look, adds formatting, and programing via rules or code, etc.

The files are just XML, so text data files.

To open a XML file, Infopath has to have the template it was created with inorder to display the data and allow you to interact with it.

So you need to know where the template is that the XML use. It is the XSN file.  Each XML has the URL or UNC path to the template it was created with.

If you keep the same file location c:\Infopath or whatever between the two computers that would be helpful.  Then you need to open the template in design mode and publish it to the same path or location on your new computer.

That way when you open the forms they will find the template and be able to display the data.

www.qdabra.com has soem tools for bulk updating your files to point to a new location if that is needed.

    Hope that helps.
