not able to refresh data from a database query

Hi!

I am using a database query to get some data from MS access into Excel. Everything was working fine until recently. I opened my workbook and tried to refresh the query, but the refresh button is greyed out. I can't edit my query neither. It's just like the query has disapeared. Now I can't refresh my data.

I am wondering if it's because my data is growing too big or some sort of lack of memory of excel... I am using MS office 2003.

So, what might be the reason of that? What can I do to fix it? and what should I do to prevent this situation from happening again?

Thank you!

There may be other ways of importing data from ACCESS to EXCEL but I know not of them.  I only use the  Data > GetExternalData > NewDatabaseQuery route in my XL2K and have the Macro Recorder running so I will wind up with a macro that I can edit and re-use.

You might try Tools > Add ins > and check to see if you have the MS Query Add-in checked........if not, check it and try the Query again.

I limited the date range this morning, but still doesn't work. I've recreated the query, but then whan I re-opened my excel file using 2007 (I thought that might help) , it says: data may have been lost. And the query is still missing.

Is there any other (reliable) way to import data from access to excel? If so, could you tell me how to do it?

    Thanks again

Sometimes when a database is very large, returning a Query can take quite some time.......if at all.  I find it best in these situations to recreate the Query and include a filter to reduce the size of the expected returned data.......perhaps limit the date range, or other parameters.

The access file is in the same folder as the workbook. Yes, I can get to it manually and even, when I try on another workbook to create a new database query, it works fine.

It might be an Accessability or Permissions thing.......where is the ACCESS file?  Can you still get to it manually?
