Conditional Format for link in text box

I want text in a text box to have a format based on a value in another cell.  I created a cell in a spreadsheet that has the conditional formatting to which the text box links, but the text does not take the conditional formatting.  If I change the format of the cell manually, thetext box accepts the format of the cell.  Is there something I can do to make the text box display the conditional format?
