Runtime Error 429

I am running Windows 7 and Office 2007.  When opening MS Word, I first get an error message that asks me if I want to allow MS Word to make changes to the computer.  If I say No, Word does not run.  If I say Yes, I then get the error message of Run-time error 429: ActiveX compenent can't create object.  I click End and Word seems to work o.k., but this is really a nuisance.  Attachements from email will not open at all.  I cannot run Word just by clicking on a file.  I have to first run Word independently and then use the File->Open in order to get my documents opened.  I've tried reading about things to fix the Runtime error, but many of the things do not make any sense to me since I have not done any special programming.  I just installed the software and that's it.

Thanks

Try the following steps:

Right click on WinWord (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes

To access WinWord (.exe), open the following location:

Windows 7 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

Windows 7 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12

YES!!  Thank you.  One thing to note, however, in case someone else comes across this, is that when I performed the above procedure all of the boxes were unchecked other than the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and that box was not something that was allowed to be chosen (it was grayed out).  I decided to then click on the "Change settings for all users" button, which then allowed me to uncheck the "Run this program..." box.  Clicked OK twice and the issue was resolved.

Stefan, when I try to run it in safe mode, I still get the "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" question, but the Run-Time Error does not pop up.

Niyamath, I went through all of the steps from the KB article and none of them work.

One thing that I did not mention in the original post is another error message that pops up when I try to open a Word file (along with both the "Do you want to make changes..." & the Run-Time error).  A window pops up that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and the window header says "C:\Users\sandra\Desktop\doc3.doc."  The header is of course the file that I am trying to open by double-clicking on it.

I am really perplexed why this is not something that can be easily fixed.

As a troubleshooting step, see if Word runs in Safe mode: Hold the Windows key as you press R; in the Run dialog box, type winword /safe and press Enter.
