Quick Access Toolbar in Excel

Is there a limit on the number of items you can place to the left of the file name on the Quick Access Toolbar? It seem that I can still add More Commands but they do not appear on the Toolbar?  There is no more room but it does not warn you that you cannot add more!

TIA

Gerry

When you add more commands to QAT, it should ideally push the document title to the right and keep adding the commands on the left side, till the complete title bar is filled up. When you still add more commands, that’s when you get the arrow mark on the right end of the list to display the extra commands. The same scenario applies if you select the ‘Show below the Ribbon’ option.

But in your case, it seems that its adding the commands only to the left of the title, and it doesn’t push the title to the right to allow more commands.

How many commands have you placed on the QAT?

Does it happen only in Excel or in all Office applications?

You may open Excel in safe mode and check if it makes any difference. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > type excel /safe > hit OK.

Also try uploading a screenshot pertaining to the issue, so as to help you better.

I find that it will only allow 12 pinned and 8 recent.  The Nov update was quite an experience!!!!

20 total may be the magic number.

This limitation by M$ makes NO sense to me

Please tell me that I am mistaken - even the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties no longer a max number setting.

How many commands have you placed on the QAT?

    Twelve.

Does it happen only in Excel or in all Office applications?

It was not apparent in Word or Outlook as I have added many commands to the QUAT. I decided to test the word template by adding commands and the file name moved to the right as you suggested it should. Then I looked at an Excel worksheet open on the second monitor and that had moved.

I am not sure what the solution was but there must be something common to Word and Excel. Anyway the problem seems to be resolved.

    Thanls for your input.

You can add as many commands as you wish, but it will display only what it can accommodate in the space available.

That statement just states the obvious, except that there is space to the right of the title which could have been used.

To view the extra commands, you need to click on the arrow mark displayed at the right end of the list.

Why would you want to view the command save to change what is displayed? Viewing is not a logical function for a quick access toolbar!

If you move the quick access toolbar to below the ribbon you have lots more space but the same limitation applies and unfortunately you reduce the working area.

This takes me back to my original point. Why allow icons to be added which are not displayed?
