Table cell vertical alignment doesn't work (Word 2007, German)

I want to align text at the bottom of a text box or table cell, such that it 'grows upwards' when I add a new line. The bottom line should always stay at the bottom of the box/cell, however many lines there are. The option in a text box remains greyed out and in a table cell it has no effect! Text is always aligned at the top of the cell/box.

Am I doing something wrong? I see others have had this problem and not received an answer (e.g. http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/890666-word-2007-i-can-t.html)

I found the problem, or rather a solution: I had a text box anchored to the text in the cell; when I removed the text box, the cell's vertical alignment worked correctly.

Found this thread recently. Did not solve the problem for me.

After some time trying discovered that table was sitting in a paragraph with 12 p spacing "after" each paragraph. Highlighted the table from one line above of top row and one (or more) below bottom row (so as to include it) and right click - select paragraph and set Spacing "after" to zero. it worked!!

No you are not doing anything wrong, you just have not checked other factors that can affect the appearance of text in a table cell.

    1. Table properties, Table tab, Options button (bottom right), do you have any cell margin for Bottom? Also here uncheck Auto resize to fit if it is checked.
    2. Format, Paragraph, Indents and Spacing tab, what value do you have in the Before and After, I tend to have 1pt or 2pt in both for nice spacing in table cells. Also what is the Line Spacing value, in tables either Single (1) or a low Multiple value (1.1) works in a table.

Apologies I do not know what the dialog/menu commands are called in German ;-)

    Hope this helps

This was the solution for me, as well. From Page Layout tab, look for the Spacing section. The Spacing After was set to 10 pt. I changed it to 0 pt and the vertical alignment of the cells behaved as expected.

    Thank you for posting this.

    Cheers.

I found that when I created a table, the line spacing was set to DOUBLE.   It made the text appear at the top of the cell. I changed it to single spacing, and everything was ok then.
