cannot edit Excel cell comment

I am using Excel 2010 in a Windows 7 environment.  I find that sporadically when I try to edit a previously entered comment, in an entire column of data, that when I select the "Edit Comment" from the drop down box the comment will not display.  The only work around is to unhide the comment, edit it and then rehide it.  Comments in the same exact sheet in directly adjacent columns edit just fine.  This has been a long standing problem and seems to happen after hiding or unhiding columns on the sheet.  I keep hoping that it will get corrected in newer versions, this has been around a long, long time.  Is there something that I am missing, is there a fix that anyone knows about?

Thank you Muhammad this is the only effective solution I have been able to find.

It worked 100%. After dragging out the column the comment "Box" did not appear "underneath" the cell

but was visible for editing dependent on the "Format Comment...." settings, which are available when right clicking the border of the "Edit Comment Box"

If this has happened to you...

You can see comments, but when you click "Edit comments" you can't see the comment box.

How to fix! Say your comment is in column C, goto the top cell with a comment in that column. Drag that column out to make it wider, then click "Edit Comment." You should see that its "underneath" that cell. Drag the comment box out to the right. Fix your column width. This also fixed ALL the rest of my uneditable comments.

    Hi,

i went through the same problem.

for me, the issue came from the fact that more than 1 spreadsheet was selected: so try to

    • select another one
    • then select back to the one you were on

The comments should be just as good as new**!Hope it works for you**
