Ways to check network connection and access Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10

Hi,

As of now, I check network connection between Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 by ping and I access both from each other by Windows Remote Desktop Connection.

Some of techies say, there are multiple ways to check connection between both and there are multiple ways for accessing one from another.

Please be kind and let me know,

1. What are other ways for checking network connection between Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10?
2. What are other ways for accessing Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 from each other?

for telnet side
we can refer below document.we can enable telnet client feature for both win10 and windows server 2016 ,but there is no telnet server feature on both win10 and server 2016.
