I am using Window XP and Microsoft Word 2007 and i get a lot of emails with the attachment resume. doc. It used to work fine but suddenly it cannot open any files with the name resume.doc. Whenever i try to open such files, an error message pops up with the message "cannot create file: resume.doc. right click the folder you want to create file in, and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permission for the folder."

I tried to do it but to no avail. any solutions for this?

Hi again Grace,

It sure sounds like the problem is linked with the attachment name and the frequency with which you receive such attachments. Maybe it's something kicking in from Norton, or McAfee or whatever protection you have. That it suddenly stopped working could be the result of an update from them.

Could also be something in Outlook.

OK, so here's another "off the wall" thought.  If you have private e-mail account with Google, Yahoo, Hotmail account, etc. you could try forwarding the e-mail to that account and then try to Save it to your computer from there. It's not a solution - more of a band aid - but at least you'd get the attachment saved and would know where the problem originates.

Worth a shot?

S.

This might happen due to a file association problem. Try the steps mentioned in the article given below to fix this.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859

If the above step fails, try booting the system in ‘clean boot’ to check if a service like your anti-virus is blocking word. Refer the article below to boot in ‘clean boot’.

Note: Read the disclaimer mentioned in the article.

    no it didn't :(

I can't even save the file at all. The error message kept popping out.

Weird how it is just for files named 'resume.doc'. other files can still be opened.

Try saving ‘resume.doc’ on the computer and then try to open it.

If the issue still persists try clearing all the files in the following location ‘%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook’.

    Hope this helps!
