Apart from the limited use of the barcode field mentioned by Yves, if you have a barcode font installed you can type or mailmerge barcodes into your documents -http://www.barcodesinc.com/free-barcode-font/ should get you started

If you have the barcode as an image, you can just paste it.

If you are talking about the old postal barcode from previous Office versions, then you can still do it by inserting the field manually. "Insert" tab => "Quick Parts" button => "Field..." menu item. From the listbox on the left, pick "Bar code". Fill in the necessary field options appearing on the right to display the barcode.

Note that the postal barcodes were only interesting in the past for bulk mail, and they no longer work as explained inhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/897290
