Excel Comments field size

I have an excel spreadsheet with lots of comments fields completed.  Every time I open the document the size of the individual comments field changes.  Sometimes it's larger than the entire screen page and sometimes it's just a little arrow that needs to be enlarged.  Not all of the comments fields change at the same time. Some could be large and some small. I can't figure out how to fix this.

When you say comment fields what do you mean? Are we talking a column of comments say column G, or are we talking about the little yellow comment boxes added by Insert, Comment?

If you are talking about the second: Are your comments displayed all the time or only when you put your mouse over the commented cell?

The size of a comment is controlled by the user - you can manually size them and once they are sized they stay the same size.  But not all comments need to be the same size.  Also apparent comment size changes depending on the Zoom %.

Comment position is another issue.  If you leave the comment displayed they stay in their same position (most of the time), but if you hide them they almost always display in the same position (top right) regardless of where you may have moved them when they were open.

Can this issue be resolved?!?!?  I create comments in cells and size them appropriately.  Comments are hidden until mouse is over the cell.  Comment boxes are sized correctly when the spreadsheet is closed.  When the spreadsheet is opened again, sometimes the comment boxes are okay and sometimes they are no longer sized correctly.  The worksheets have filters but the comment boxes change size regardless of whether or not I actually use the filters.  The comment boxes don't change when I use the filters, only when the spreadsheet is closed and opened again.

Yes, I do apply filters a lot and I hide columns.  I didn't know that would affect the comments field.  Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you may be applying filters to the ranges or hiding rows or using the Group command and collapsing?

Doing some of these can cause issues.

Thank you so much for responding. Yes, I am talking about the little yellow comment boxes added by Insert, Comment. The comments are only displayed when I hover the mouse over the cell.  I know how to size these boxes but for some reason they just don't keep the same size after I open and close the spreadsheet. e.g. I just looked at three different comments boxes on the spreadsheet in question and two of the comments yellow boxes are approx. 4" X 6" ( really) and another comments yellow box doesn't even show the box.  There is just a straight black line with an arrow at the end pointing to the corner of the cell where the comments indicator is located. I can right click on the cell and click on edit comments and then I can see an outline of a box with the the top border touching the bottom border and no yellow showing...then I can expand the corners to see the yellow box with the comments.  Any ideas what could be going on here?
