Can't open .docx attachments

When double clicking on a Word 2007 file that is attached to an email a message pops up and tells me that no program is associated with the attachment and directs me to create an association in control panel.  I have to save the file to the desktop and open it from there without a problem.  Why does Windows Mail think that my 2007 Word program is not associated with the email attachment?

This issue may occur if the file association is not correct, try the steps mentioned below:

1.     Download and save the attachment on the desktop.

2.     Do a right click on the saved file.

3.     Select Open With from the pop-up menu.

4.     Click Choose default Program.

5.     Select Word in the Programs box.

6.     Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

7.     Click OK.

If this does not resolve the issue, refer the link below for file association:

Check if the applications have the latest updates installed, this issue will be fixed once your machine is up to date.

Why does Windows Mail think that my 2007 Word program is not associated with the email attachment?

Perhaps you would want to check.....

Start button > Default Programs > Aossociate a file type or protocol with a program > scroll down to docx under NAME > look across and see if Microsoft Office Word is the Current Default.

If not, click Change Program and find MS Office Word to select.

    See if this helps.

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open these attachments in the future.
