Printer properties won't save

I have a word document that I want to print double sided. I change the printer properties to do this. When I go to close the file, it asks me if I want to save the changes. The only thing changed was the printer properties from single to double sided, so I say yes. The next time I open the file, it prints single sided. Why does it ask me to save the changes if it is not going to? How can I get it to print double sided first time everytime?

Thanks,  Greg

Install a second copy of the printer driver that has it's default set to print double sided and then use a macro in the document so that when the  Print command is given, it will print to that printer.

See the article "Changing the selected (current) printer in Word without changing the system default printer” at:

Excel may save more options than Word, but it doesn't save all printing options; for example, the number of copies selected is not saved with the spreadsheet.

Perhaps someone can suggest a macro that forces duplex printing.

The problem is that I don't always want to print duplex. I make up forms and documents and put them on our server for me and other people to print out. I want the ones that I want double sided to print that way no matter who is loading and printing it. I have been dragged and forced into using word from lotus, and this is one of the BIGGEST bugs in this program, and cannot figure out why it has not been fixed. The printing properties save with the file in excel. Same manufacturer right? All part of the "Office" suite...

If anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful to hear it.

Quite often Word will prompt you to save the document after it has been printed, but that doesn't mean that printer settings will be document-specific; on the contrary, most settings are not.

If you always want to print duplex, set that as the default for your printer (in the Printers and Faxes applet in Control Panel).
