disable hyperlink detection

I'm currently working on a Word 2010 document that needs many internet links in it and to edit text around those links. However, that document is for print and there is no need to mark those links as any different from normal text. I know it is possible to remove an automatically assigned hyperlink from the text, but with that many links it is really rather tedious. Especially because any editing around the pasted links makes some hyperlink detection kick in and place hyperlinks where I just removed them from. Also, if I have a link pasted in the document and removed its hyperlink and then put it in angle brackets (I need those links to be inside those brackets), the hyperlink pops back up and my brackets disappear.

Is it possible in any way to disable this hyperlink mechanism in Word? (if not, this should definitely be in the nex version, and already disabled by default - personally I have been using Word for >10 years and I've never needed a hyperlink in a Word document).

    Click File, then Options.

    Click Proofing.

    Click AutoCorrect Options...

Activate the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

Clear the check box Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.

    Click OK twice.

You can also modify the Hyperlink style to remove the hyperlink color and underlining. This will not disable the hyperlinks, but make them look like oridinary text.
