Version number displayed in control panel different than version number displayed in Project

I have Windows 7, Office 2007 and Project Professional 2010 32 bit. I generally do not restart my computer every day, so when I restarted my computer a couple of days ago, after having been turned on since late August, I started having weird problems with Project. Control Panel (Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features) shows that I have Project version 14.0.6029.1000. Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\View update history shows Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2510690) 32-bit Edition with the same Installation date as the Project version. Since the only Office 2010 application that I have is Project, the update was specifically for Project. The knowledge base article stated only install if you were experiencing the problems, which I was not. In Project, going through File>Help>About Microsoft Project>Additional  Version and Copyright Information,  14.0.6023.1000 is displayed. Why is there a diffence between the two versions displayed?

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Important

Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2510690) 32-bit Edition contains new updates which improve security, performance, and stability. Additionally, the SP is a roll-up of all previously released updates.

Pls check the kb article at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2121559

Pls also check the notes at the bottom of the page as it states:

Not all updates change the version number that is listed in the About Microsoft Program_Name dialog box. Therefore, you must verify the properties for the program's executable file.

I do not prefer automatic updates so I download the files and then install them. When I check version number of SP1 file (project2010sp1-kb2460052-x86-fullfile-en-us.exe) by right-clicking on the file, I see 14.0.6029.1000.  So MS Project has been updated to SP1.

    Hi Deanic,

I have to pass on this, though I can confirm I have the same numbers as you do.  Why there is a difference, I don't know. Sorry.

The full version displayed in Project is (14.0.6023.1000) SP1 MSO (14.0.6023.1000). The Project Version that appears in Control Panel is 14.0.6029.1000. I haven't gone through 6024-6028 to see what is included in them that might have been missed, but 6029 is supposed to be a cumulative update.

    Hi deanic,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project forum:)

In file/Help/About.../Additional..., you should see the version number followed by SP1.  You need to install that together with the Cumulative Updates (I think dated Jul 2010)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web address:  http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
