When using Windows Explorer i cannot open .dbf files.

When i choose 'open with'

 - i have 2 excel options. 'Microsoft Excel' and 'Microsoft Office Component.'  Neither option works when i choose them.

I cannot remove the 'component' from the 'open with' box. Does anyone know how to? "Microsoft Office" is also in this box

I uninstalled what seemed to be the 64 bit version of MS Office 2010 , then reinstalled the 32 bit version. I could open the .dbf prior to the reinstallation.

I can open the dbf files from inside excel. But i want to run a few macros and would like the option to open from Explorer.

I can also open normal excel or csv files from Explorer, just having no luck with the .dbf

Can anyone help?

Hi

Please follow this steps to set file association

  1. Change which programs Windows uses by default
  2. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Default Programs.
  3. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  4. Click .dbf, and then Click Change program.
  5. If you don't see Other Programs, or your program is not listed, click Browse
  • Location should be:

c:\program files (x86)\microsoft office\office14\Excel.exe
