recent documents will not display

Question

i have asked this question before.  i have office 7 enterprise.  i cannot view recent documents as the display box is grayed out. i have reinstalled and tried everything, the same problem exists for excel and the entire suite.

A possible cause of this would be the application of "privacy" options in an external app such as TweakUI. If you've suppressed display of Recent Documents on the Start menu, for example, then you will have disabled the display in Word as well.

See if there is a registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoRecentDocsHistory

and if there is, set the value to 0 (or delete it) with Word closed.

The recent file list for Word 2007 (not Word 7 - that is something else entirely) is stored at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\File MRU - Seehttp://www.gmayor.com/clear_recently_used_file_list.htm.

I appreciate your responding to my query.  Apparently there is no workaround.  Funny how it is a hit and miss bug and is not fixable.

It was and still is a known bug. It effects some users and not others and is sporadic in its failure.
