Multiple numbered lists in document, with numbering starting with 1

I have a document with multiple numbered lists. Each list starts with number 1.

I assume that the easiest way to do this is:

  1. define a style, including my desired formatting
  2. apply it to all items (paragraphs) in all the lists
  3. then manually go through and select Restart Numbering for each list.

The part that I'm wondering about is the Restart Numbering. It's quite doable, and it works. But is there an easier way, which does not require the Restart Numbering to be reapplied for each list?

Thanks.

The way you have found is the way I would do it: it probably is the easiest.

However, there are several other methods described here:

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/ListRestartMethods.htm

I use a variation of the "VBA" method, to ensure we get the same list re-applied each time.

Some people are very fond of the "Restart on higher..." method, which is "automatic".

I personally don't use that method except in extremis, because it confuses unskilled people who may be working on the document later, in which case they will break the list and the numbering in the entire document will instantly go wrong!

Hope this helps
