Insert Appendix references

I want to insert Appendix references in a report and automate these references.  For example, I would write in t the text: Please refer toAppendix C, List of Popular Cars from 1958 .   When I add an Appendix reference earlier in the report, I would like all following Appendix references letters to automatically change.   Of course, I want to create a Table of Appendixes in the front of the document in the TOC.

Thanks much for any help you can give me.

If you have cross-ref’ed to the Appendix, then it will update but you need to switch between Print Preview and Print Layout views to force the update.

OK, but tell me how to cross reference, if you would please.  This is precisely the problem I am having.

    Thanks!

For "everything" on appendix numbering, see http://shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/numberingappendixes.html.

    Here's one way:

Under the REFERENCES tab, click on "Cross-reference."

    For "Reference Type", choose "Heading."

In the "Insert reference to" drop-down box, choose "Heading number (no content)."

Then, choose the heading you wish to reference.

    Click the "Insert" button.
