Heading 2 Formatting Changes When I Use Format Painter

I am building a template in Word 2007. I'd like my numbering of Heading 1 through 4 to all be left aligned. For some reason, every time I use the format painter to pick up the Heading 2 style from an exiting Heading 2 in the template, rather than by using the Quick Style button I created, the formatting changes. When I choose the format painter and select the Heading 2 text that I have formatted like I would like it to be, and then paint over the new text, all my Heading 2's slide to the right as if there was a tab there or something. Please help.

Thank you,

 Jacey

Rather than using the format painter, have you considered using the short cut keys assigned to the styles? The default are <CTL ALT 1> <CTL ALT 2>  < CTL ALT 3> <CTL ALT 4>

I find it much faster and easier than messing around with the format painter.

In addition, you can and should modify the built-in headings to suit your needs.
