Application will not initialize (cvh.exe)

Question

All of a a suddend none of my Office 2010 (Student and home) software apps will not initialize (cvh.exe error).  They were working fine last night - and NONE of the apps will open.

Click to Run is installed, I have tried repairing an re-installing the program.

The error message is: "cvh.exe - Application Error"

"The application filed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click on OK to terminate the program"

I can get it to run if I right click, "open with", "choose program", and select

"Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler".  No other option works (e.g., in the "open with" window, or trying to run it directly from the VH folder in "Program Files"

I can't run the MSI version since my download has expired.  I have ordered the CD version, and maybe I can run it from there.  I have also tried re-installing EVERYTHING from the original download file.  I have also upgraded Microsoft.Net to 4.0.  Nothing works so far

I also restored a backup verision of registry which I knew to be working previously.  Didn't help

The timeframe of failure seems consistent with a couple of updates to Office Click to Run on 2/23

Have you installed click2run version of office?

Are you able to open other office applications?

Try performing a repair of office.

Exact wording of the error message please.  Whatever you do, please do not use any registry repair programs which show with Google searches.
