Microsoft Office Excel - Sharing Violation problems

Anonymous

I use Windows XP.  When I open/edit/ and try to save on some my excel files, it all of a sudden says there has been a sharing violation & makes me save it under a different name.  It has become a continuous problem.

I DO NOT share the files with anyone and I am not on a networked computer.  How can I correct this issue?

Thanks,

PJinKY

This happens with Microsoft's security essentials as well. With or without real time protection turned on. Are you saying that Microsoft software is incompatible with Micorsoft software? Even when the antivirus checking is turned off? I find this hard to believe. Furthermore it never occurred with Excel 2007, only the 2010 beta, so the hotfixes do not address the problem with Excel 2010.

This fixed the problem for me and I suspect it will fix it for users under Win 7 x64 if not all MS OS's: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-IE/w7files/thread/0b0067aa-0c76-433c-bcdd-93b0e30c678a ; alsoran999 Feb 16 2010 post.

Having been a software developer for over 30 years, this answer puzzles me.  I am running Office XP Pro and Office 2010 Beta.  When I open a spreadsheet in using Office XP Excel it functions fine and saves normally.  When I open the same spreadsheet with Office 2010 Excel and try to save it, I get the sharing violation.  Same environment, same anti virus, same version of Kaspersky, same everything.  It has been my experience that when you develop a new version of a program that is supposed to be compatible with the existing environment, it should work in the same environment.  Why blame the anti virus software? Why not fix Excel and Word? If the older versions of Excel and word could save files in the same environment why can't the new versions do the same? Why is it so hard for Microsoft to admit that it is their software causing the problem and not everyone else's?

I have had the same Antivirus software for years and have never had this problem until after the new year started.  Not sure what the problem is but I don't think it is my antivirus software.

This is because of the Antivirus software installed on the computer. To confirm Antivirus is causing the issue follow these steps

    1. Restart your computer and start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard as soon as you turn ON the power button. (On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.)
    2. Select the option "Safe Mode with Networking" when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
    3. Choose the operating system & User account.

Then try to save the Excel workbook.

If you don’t get the error message this time that means the issue is with the Antivirus program.

Contact the anti-virus support to resolve the issue.
