    I get something similar. When I try to open Word this pops up (and it always tries to open Word in a small screen)

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LIbrary

    Runtime Error!

    Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE

    This application has requiested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

    Now I used the theory of using the Run program under the Start menu and that sort of worked. It opened a blank Word document and while that document was open I could open any other Word document I wanted. As many as I wanted too, but as soon as I closed that document that Run opened for me the same warning as before popped up when I tried to open a Word document. I don't know if it is the same for other Microsoft programs as well, I haven't tried, but anything that can help would be greatly appreciated.

    This means that some kind of code, somewhere, is unable to execute. And no, this is not something Microsoft put into the software to force you to upgrade :-) Quite likely, if you did upgrade, the problem would still be there, because it's 3rd party software (a macro) causing the problem, not something built into Word.

    This may be a macro you created or recorded. It could be a macro in a document or template you received from someone, downloaded, or purchased. Theoretically, it could also be a "macro virus", although I wouldn't expect one of those to produce a runtime error...

    Can you remember what Word things were new on your system, just before this started happening?

    What, exactly, do you do when this message shows up? Is it when you open Word? Open a document? Perform a particular command?

    If you start Word in "Safe mode", does the problem go away for that single Word session? (In order to start Word in safe mode, use Start/Run in Windows. Type into the box: winword.exe /a
