Problem - I have ms office  home and student 2007, installed jul2009, all of the sudden I can't access excel 2007 worksheet files! Running on Vista platform, get message

  • windows cannot find .xlsx files! OMG - not possible, key to all my record keeping!

Have checked on line for help - one suggestion, open excel first, then office button, file open appears to work for now but very cumbersome - what can I do to fix?  Thanks.

Have checked file associations - seem ok - changed to  excel [same] - same result  . . on line help - tried control panel ' ms office home and student 2007' change/ repair/ restart feature for -several times - and several other angles, . . . have not yet tried registry changes !!

Excel still crippled, can't open files directly - explorer or recent files - but at least discovered I can  open files, if I open excel first, then file/ open. Still frustrated - Thx, bill

Right click on Excel file  > open with > choose default program > browse for Excel 2007 and click on OK.

Check the link on how to change the file associations:
