Keyboard function changed by wrong combination of keys pressed. Effected-shift key function

I was typing in 'Office' when I made an error in capitalization. With some character combinations of the backspace, shift key, shift o, backspace, ... I inadvertently made where the shift key does not work with the 'o', colon, and various other characters.  When I do press 'shift' and the character needed, nothing appears.  Some characters work, others, do not.  In order to get some capital letters, I must use the Caps Lock.  For such as the colon, even that does not work.

I have checked the 'Ease of Access', did search on the web, and have restarted my computer.  The error continues, on all programs using the keyboard (word, excel, onenote,...)

Does anyone know what I pressed?  And, how to correct it?

It sounds like you inadvertently toggled a different keyboard/language. Look in the notification area... do you see something like FR (or perhaps two other letters)? If so, click on it and choose the desired language.

To keep it from happening again, you can disable the key combination that toggles keyboard/language. Right-click the EN (or whatever you see) and choose Settings. Exactly what you do after that depends on which version of Windows you're using. Explore a bit, however, and you should be able to discover the place where you choose whether and which key combinations switch keyboards/languages.
