Yes, you have made changes to the configuration of Word that have to be saved in the NORMAL.DOTM file. Change to defaults somewhere, and you have the Word Option "Prompt to save changes to normal" turned on.

If you remember what changes you made to configuration that you get to decide if you want to keep them or not. If you don't remember what the change could be, you reject it.

Sometimes 3rd party addons, that add buttons/tabs will trigger the change also.

So what is the question?

I have the same problem. My son more than likely added something from a 3rd party, which caused the issue. Any idea how to fix it? I get the error message when I try to save changes to an existing Word file. It results in my inability to save the file. Either changes arent saved, or Word gets hung up.
